Hello friends,
I’m excited to share with you some powerful revelations from our recent discussions about the role of conflict, disagreement, and how they can lead us to spiritual growth. We’ve been diving deep into this concept, and I believe it will help you see things differently, just as it’s been doing for me.
The Power of Arguments and Conflict
Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been exploring the power of conflict and disagreement. Today, I want to focus on the power of arguments. Arguments aren’t just about clashing opinions; they’re opportunities. They’re spaces where God is inviting us to grow, to change, and to see things from His perspective.
Let me take you to Numbers 14:9, where we see a fascinating story unfold. As we reflect on this scripture, it’s clear that conflict isn’t something to avoid. Instead, it’s a signal that there’s more to be discovered—more to be learned, more to be understood, and more to be changed within us. When Jesus speaks to us, He’s not just talking for the sake of it. He’s creating spaces where we can think and respond differently. And if we’re not doing that, then we’re missing out on what He’s preparing for us.
Unity in Disagreement
So, what do we do when conflict or disagreement shows up? First, we recognize that it’s a space where growth is needed. It’s a space that tells us, “Hey, there’s something more here that needs to be addressed so we can live in unity.”
Now, unity doesn’t mean we all think the same way. No, unity means we’ve created a space where trust can flourish, where we can be honest, and where we feel safe—psychologically and emotionally safe. When we don’t feel safe, that’s when criticism creeps in, negativity takes over, and we start trying to control things we shouldn’t be controlling.
Creating Safe Spaces for Growth
So, how do we create these safe spaces? How do we ensure that we not only feel secure but also allow others to feel accepted? This is where trust comes in. Trust is about creating a space where it’s okay to be wrong, where it’s okay to express yourself without fear of rejection. Kindness is the key here. Kindness opens the door to forgiveness and makes room for creativity and growth. When we approach others with kindness, we’re saying, “I’m here for you, not against you.”
And let’s not just stop at kindness. Let’s talk about learning. Learning is a powerful tool. When we engage in conflicts or disagreements, we should approach them not just with a listening ear, but with a learning heart. When we’re open to learning, we’re open to growth. We’re open to new perspectives that can shift how we see the world and how we interact with others.
The Role of Kindness and Learning
Let me tell you something—kindness isn’t negotiable. It’s the foundation upon which we build trust and unity. When we’re kind, we create a space where others feel safe, where they can be themselves without fear. And when we’re learning, we’re not just passively listening. We’re actively engaging with what’s being said, and we’re open to the possibility that there’s something new here for us to grasp.
Psychological safety is crucial. Whether you’re a leader, a parent, a teacher, or just navigating your daily life, you need to create spaces where people feel safe to express themselves, where they feel valued and heard. This isn’t just about making everyone feel good—this is about creating an environment where real growth can happen.
Shift from Listening to Learning
So, here’s what I want you to do this week: shift your focus from just listening to actively learning. In every conversation, every disagreement, ask yourself, “What can I learn here? What is God trying to teach me?” When you do this, you’ll not only grow personally, but you’ll also create a space where others can grow alongside you.
A Prayer for Safe Spaces and Growth
Let’s take a moment to pray. Father, we thank You for the opportunities You give us to grow through conflict and disagreement. Help us to approach these moments with kindness and a willingness to learn. Create in us a safe place where Your presence can dwell, where we can unify in trust and love. Guide us as we navigate our lives, making us instruments of Your peace and vessels of Your wisdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
